Black Eyed Peas Win Suit

The Black Eyed Peas have won a copyright lawsuit that was filed against them by a singer who claimed that the pop-rap group stole their smash hit “Boom Boom Pow.”

The group and label Interscope won a summary judgment in the suit; which had been filed by Phoenix Phenom in January 2010.

Phoenix Phenom, real name Ebony Latrice Batts, said that the group lifted their hit from her copyrighted song “Boom Dynamite,” a track she submitted to Interscope Records.

The judge determined that the songs were similar but not similar enough to grant a judgment to the singer. He declared that the lawsuit was unwarranted.
