Hip Hop Exec to Head Geffen Records
Gee Roberson, a hip-Hop music executive who has been instrumental in shaping the careers of superstars like Kanye West, Young Jeezy and Nicki Minaj, has been named Chairman of Universal Music Group’s Geffen Records. Gee founded HipHopSince1978 with Kyambo “Hip-Hop” Joshua and executive Al Branch.
The three were directors of A&R for Roc-A-Fella Records for more than 7 1/2 years, and Roberson helped discover several notable artists. He was also president of the rap division of Atlantic Records.
As chairman of Geffen, Roberson will look to rebuild the label’s roster and assemble a new A&R and promotions team.
