LL Cool J To Be Honored

Rap superstar LL Cool will be honored with the “I Am Hip-Hop Icon” award at the 6th annual BET Hip-Hop Awards this October in Atlanta. LL emerged as a young lyricist on the Def Jam label back in 1984 and spent the next two decades releasing chart-topping albums and singles.

He made the transition into acting in the early 90s, and today stars on the hit CBS show “NCIS: Los Angeles.”

His longevity in hip hop and penchant for vanquishing numerous rap rivals have made him one of hip hop’s biggest names and most respected icons. Over the course of his career, LL battled with everyone from Kool Moe Dee to Ice T to Canibus.

He’s starred in several films, including S.W.A.T., Any Given Sunday, Deep Blue Sea and more.

BET’s “I Am Hip-Hop Icon” Award has previously been given to artists like Grandmaster Flash, KRS-One, Russell Simmons, Ice Cube and Salt-N-Pepa.
